Just When I Think I Want to Quit

by | Nov 1, 2016 | Delaney's Blog

I would be like to tell you that I have it all together but that would be a lie.  There are days that I feel like what God has called me to do is just too hard and if I quit He will send someone else.  This week was one of those weeks…until tonight.  I was waiting on a customer who was just like any other one.  His name was Eric and I will forever remember his name.  We started talking about working at Cracker Barrel and how long I had been there and what my plans were.  I told him about my trip to Guatemala in July and how I felt God was calling me back there to serve.  I explained how next summer I would be going there for at least a year.  I asked him and his wife if they needed anything else because they looked like they were finishing up.  He asked me if I had a second.  He pulled out a coin and he was holding it tightly in his hand.  He said that when he went to fight for our country in Iraq his father had given him this coin and told him that it would protect him while he was there.  He handed me this coin and he told me it was going to keep me safe and he wanted me to have it.  Then he showed me his arm that had a tattoo of the same coin that his dad had given him.  He was crying and you could tell that it was very hard for him to do.  If he was able to go and serve so willingly for our country and give up something that meant so much to him who am I to quit.  I will go and I will serve with all that I have and do it willingly.  There are people that need to know they can’t quit.
