Following the Unfamiliar

Two months ago I made a huge change to my life. I moved to Knoxville, TN to train to become a Foreign Missionary. Many people have asked me “why such a dramatic change at such a young age?”. I often find that a hard question to answer because sometimes God doesn’t give an answer or reason for things in our lives. What I do know is that I am only following my calling the Lord has placed on my heart.

Throughout the week we study Theology and Missiology along with other classes that help me better understand the Bible and other cultures so I can more effectively minister on the field. I also do a weekly outreach where we provide food to people in need. I love my classes and outreaches but everything in life at the moment is very unfamiliar.

Coming into this internship I was very sure of where I wanted to go. My heart is now open to anywhere we can currently hold a missionary. I want to ultimately leave the final decision up to God and GI to send me where I will be the most help. This process of following the unfamiliar to become a foreign missionary can be scary and tough at times. When I run across those moments, I remind myself of Mark 16:15. It says “He said to them ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation’ ” This verse brings me joy because what I get to do is literally a mandate from God! The path of the unfamiliar is truly being formed in front of my eyes!
