Kumasta from the Philippines! I’m currently sitting in a Filipino McDonald’s reflecting on the past few days here. Thursday (Feb 6th) we visited the people of Tarangay, they live within a 7km radius of the active Volcano cluster. In January the Volcano erupted. The heavy ash destroyed their homes and killed their crops and farm animals; ultimately destroying their livelihoods. They were then dislocated and are staying at an evacuation center until they can afford to rebuild their homes.
It amazes me in the midst of these people’s struggles they are still smiling and are hopeful. They still love God and praise Him for all that He has given them. Not for one second do they question Him and His sovereignty. This is what amazes me every time I go on a mission trip.
It amazes me because this is what God asks us to do. He asks us to keep our heads up and fixed on everything before us (Proverbs 4:25-27). I think this is the problem some people struggle with back in the states. We go through a trial in our life and then question God and everything has he previously brought us through. He is our protector and the Lord of lords, the author and finisher of our faith. So I challenge you to fixate your eyes on the Lord and let him guide your steps.
