And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1:21-23
If you have ever said, “Jesus is the reason for the season,” then you have made a statement that aligns perfectly with the Great Commission. Jesus’ very name is translated “God with us,” except for more than 3 billion people on the planet, that is not even close to true. God is not with them. In fact, they have never even heard of Jesus.
Jesus was sent with an assignment: to become the perfect sacrifice for sin and be raised from the dead, so salvation will be available to everyone. During his brief time on earth, He would only be able to cover a certain amount of geographical ground. For 3 years, prior to His death and resurrection, He walked and walked from city to city, village to village, explaining the Kingdom of God, healing the sick, teaching the disciples and anyone else who would listen. Then it was up to His disciples to push the message of the Gospel further into the world — yet they too were only able to cover a certain amount of the planet, even though many of them traveled far.
Jesus is the truly the reason for the season, and the reason for Jesus is evangelism and missions. Your prayers and support for GI this Christmas season will help us do exactly what Jesus commanded us to do: go into all the world – to those without Him.
