Darkness

At one point during our trip, people were literally running away from us—avoiding us, quickly moving in another direction once they saw us, or walking away from us mid-sentence. All because of one word: Jesus.

Global Infusion has been working in the Andes Mountains of Peru for more than a decade, and alongside our indigenous pastors and GI missionaries, we are planting churches in unreached areas. Some areas are much more unreached than others. This month, we entered four villages and towns that are strategic church-planting locations. During several evangelistic outreaches, we were confronted with both the darkness of the enemy and the results of that darkness overpowering an area for an extended time. Yet we view every unreached people group as our mission field and every stronghold as an opportunity for the Gospel.

Darkness is an interesting thing. In fact, it’s not really a thing at all—it is simply the absence of light. The Bible says in John 1:5, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” The darkness is not winning because it is stronger than the light; it is winning where the light has not yet gone. And that is why we go.

There is good news at the end of today’s story. Our GI team in Peru saw nearly 50 salvations, and all four church plants are doing well. However, there is still work to be done. The world remains blind in its darkness, and only the light of the Gospel can change that.
