Different Spirit

by | Feb 28, 2026 | President's Blog

In Numbers 13–14, Moses sends twelve spies into the Promised Land. They all see the same things. They all face the same obstacles. But they do not return with the same spirit. Ten come back focused on danger, giants, and impossibility. Two—Joshua and Caleb—come back believing that if God has promised the land, then obedience is not optional.

God’s response is striking: “But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully…” (Num. 14:24). That phrase has been on my heart lately: a different spirit. This story feels uncomfortably familiar when it comes to missions. Most voices say the same things: it’s too dangerous, too expensive, too hard, too unrealistic. Stay where it’s safe. Protect what you have. Don’t take unnecessary risks. And if we’re honest, much of the Church has agreed. Meanwhile, billions remain without access to the Gospel, and souls hang in the balance. Caleb didn’t deny the difficulty—he simply believed God more than the obstacles.

A different spirit doesn’t ignore reality; it refuses to let fear make the final decision. It trusts that obedience is worth the cost.

This is the spirit we are praying for—not hype, not recklessness, but faith that follows God fully. The world does not suffer because the Gospel lacks power. It suffers because too few are willing to go. Thank you for praying. Thank you for giving. And thank you for standing with us as we choose a different spirit—for the sake of the lost.
