There are some verses in the Bible that are perplexing. We think we know what they mean, but perhaps by the time we enter eternity, and have greater revelation, we may find out that we were not even close.
And this Gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14
This is one of those verses. Does it mean what it says? Is it that simple? That if everyone in the world finally hears the Gospel (don’t forget over 3 billion have not heard once), that “the end will come?” Does this mean the rapture? The end of the world? The end of what?
There is not enough space here to fully delve into all the possible meanings, however, at it’s core, this verse is commanding us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to everyone. Once that has happened, there could very well be a historical event. Either way, it doesn’t matter—the questions to ask are:
Are we ready for Jesus ourselves?
What have we done to reach those who are unreached?
Are we responsible to see this divine task finished? It seems that we certainly play a major role. Pray for GI this month as one of our teams is going to an unreached area of the Andes Mountains in Peru to share the Gospel and continue to plant churches.
