Trade

I love summer for so many reasons; one of which is that it brings back college mission trip memories. Most of our trips were one or two months in length, and we were able to become deeply rooted in certain areas of the world and build long-lasting relationships while ministering. But it was always a trade. Go home and work, see your friends, travel on vacation, and rest were always enticing options. Trusting God to help you raise thousands of dollars for a mission trip, and therefore, “lose” the opportunity to work all summer was never easy, yet God was always faithful. I have stories for days on how God provided. The testimonies that would flood in at the end of the summer from what God did on the field, to how God made a way for us to return to school that Fall were mind-blowing. But a trade had to be made. Our ways, for His ways.

Life is full of choices, and it always seems to get harder to find room to serve God proactively, unless you
make it a lifestyle. That begins with allowing the Holy Spirit to touch your heart for the lost, and then taking
action steps to reach them. I have never regretted stepping out in faith to do Kingdom work. I remember
reading and learning about Jim Elliot, and four of his college friends heading to South America to reach an
unreached tribe that ultimately cost them their lives. Was it a bad trade? I don’t think so—not in Heaven’s economy. Five men lost their lives, and as a result, thousands found Jesus. What will you trade today that will cost you personal gain and comfort to win souls for the Lord? It will be a trade indeed, but the best one you will ever make.

“He is no fool who gives away what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose.”
Jim Elliot (1927-1956), missionary martyr
