In Matthew 24, Jesus said, “4 Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

It is important to pay attention to the news, but not be consumed by it. While many people in this world strive for world peace, Jesus very clearly says that as we draw closer to His Second Coming, there will be wars. Unrest will be prevalent. In reality, the world has always been this way—we currently live in a fallen world where the enemy does indeed have some measure of power. His influence and actions are obvious.

This month, the country of Israel was attacked yet again. If you have ever been to the Middle East, and more than one country there, and really spend time with the people, it is both beautiful and heartbreaking. The lands, the people, the cultures are palatably beautiful, but the stories and accounts of political and religious wars and its effects is heartbreaking. Enter just one refugee camp and you will understand.

But Jesus said this would happen, and we are not to be alarmed. In fact, we are to use every circumstance as an opportunity to bring the Gospel to those regions. We do not ignore people because it is “too difficult” to reach them. We go intentionally. Pray for GI this month as we are sending a team directly into the Middle East with the express purpose of reaching people with the Gospel and strengthening the growing Church.
